Date, February, General, North Sydney, Valentines

I am probably oe of the few girls that doesn’t cry at soppy chick flick movies, the Notebook being one of them. I get that it’s romantic and I do like it as  a film, but cry… no! Same with Green Mile, Titanic etc – However show me a cartoon of a weeping baby lion, well, then I crumble!

Well for those of you that are stuck for something to do this Valentine’s Day, the guys at ME Bank Starlight Cinema have a great suggestion! Cue a retrospective screening of the romantic film favourite, THE NOTEBOOK (Rated PG). Combining a starry night sky with delicious food and wine, the north shore outdoor cinema is the perfect setting for romance.

In THE NOTEBOOK Allie (Gena Rowlands) is in a nursing home suffering from dementia and Duke (James Garner) reads to her from a worn notebook. He is reading the story of how they met, in a bid to trigger some long lost memories. This is their story.

Seventeen year-old wealthy debutante Allie (Rachel McAdams) meets Noah/Duke (Ryan Gosling) while on holidays in Seabrook, North Carolina during the 1940s. They fall passionately in love, with Noah’s father’s (Sam Shepard) approval; but Allie’s snobbish parents John and Anne Hamilton drive them apart. After the war, Allie becomes engaged to Lon (James Marsden), but Noah has never loved anyone but Allie. When Allie sees Noah’s photo in the local paper, she heads to Seabrook to see him again.

Lovers young and old can bring their own rug, cushions and picnic basket or indulge on a bean bed in the Crust Lawn Lounge. For those wanting an extra special treat for their Valentine; the renowned ‘ME Bank Star Class’ includes a deck chair, hamper and waiter service on the Dining Terrace before the film.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early to enjoy a selection of music from Jazz crooner Lana Nesnas, adding to the romance of the night.
