One of Sydney’s major annual cultural events, the Sydney Comedy Festival, will return for its eighth incarnation with 97 shows and over 1,200 hours of comedy taking place from 24th April to 12th May, 2012.


The 2012 program includes a smorgasbord of outstanding international and local artists that will make up the comedy extravaganza. From top billed comedians to hilarious musical comedies, the Festival’s diverse range of shows means there will be plenty of laughs for everyone.


Performers to look out for include Ross Noble (UK), Charlie Murphy (USA), Henry Rollins (USA), Stephen K Amos (UK), Jim Breuer (US), Akmal (AUS), Jimeoin (AUS), Simon Amstell (UK). Mark Watson (UK), Steve Hughes (AUS) and David O’Doherty (IRE) to name a few!


The 2012 Festival is peppered with special events and showcases including the opening night comedic mayhem that is Cracker Night and the Gala held at the Sydney Opera House; the All Star Showcase held at Parramatta, Mosman and Randwick; the mysterious Secret Show; the annual and highly anticipated Bulmer’s Great Comedy Debate; a tribute to all things ‘Oztralian’ at Heath Franklin’s Chopper’s 3rd Annual Bonza You Bewdy G’day Big F**kin Anzac Day Show; and the closing night 60 in 60 that sees 60 comedians complete one minute of comedy each.


Musical comedy will also make a special appearance throughout the Festival with the launch of The Riot House where comedy stars are combined on stage with local bands, Alzheimer’s The Musical which has sold out shows throughout Edinburgh and the world’s first time travelling dance party, Hot Dub Time Machine.


With a show for everyone, the 2012 program also includes the Kids Comedy Showcase with the best stand up comedians trained to tickle funny bones of all ages, the Wild Women of Comedy show that promises to blow the lid off secret women’s business and the 4th Annual Yo Mama Battle, a night filled with insults, mayhem and fun.
