So the moment has finally arrived! The Mercedes Benz Fashion Week Australia officially kicked off today!
And it didn’t disappoint. Set overlooking the iconic harbour it was teeming with fashion lovers eager to get a glimpse of the new trends for Spring Summer 2012 / 13.
Sydney Social 101 was also excited to get some exclusive sneaky peeks of the shows from Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia!
Starting the day Romance Was Born designers Anna Punkett and Luke Sales brought in a futuristic element with a cool superhero theme. What a way to start the week! Collaborating with Marvel Comics, neon prints were affluent in this collection. Models wore big fake eyebrows and sported Bowie-like haircuts.
Next up was Gary Bigeni, with his vibrant collection to match his bright blue hair! The collection consisted of block colours, leather skirts and open weave knitwear. The collection oozed confidence, but was also very subtle and soft. We can’t wait for the Aussie summer now!
Iconic designer Camilla Franks, best known for dressing Oprah Winfrey in one of her Kaftans, has reached new heights. Departing from her signature look, her ‘Gypset’ collection wowed the crowd. The gypsy meets jet setter style was a mixture of loose fitting tribal print dresses, playsuits and shorts coupled with chunky jewellery and the models donned feathers in their hair to bring in the extra glam factor.
Following Camilla, was Dylan Cooper, the winner of Australia’s 3rd Project Runway, show casing his latest collection for the very first time at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Australia. The 22-year-old designer has come along leaps and bounds since graduating from the Fashion Design Studio in Sydney two years ago. Models stood still on a stage dressed in bold colours, with dramatic hair and chunky shoes.
When not busy in the show, there were plenty of other treats to keep guests occupied. The Maybelline stall touched up make-up before shows, Redken had hairdressers on stand by to help lift and style hair. And of course it would not be complete without the Mercedes Benz cars scattered around bringing a bit of highway glamour to the catwalk.
To top it all off Filipino Fashion blogger Bryanboy, Vogue’s Tim Banks and Australian model turned blogger Candice Lake were all spotted sitting front row.
The day isn’t even over yet as fashionistas queue to see the eagerly awaited Whitney Eve and exclusive Ksubi shows. Sydney’s social elite have also been invited to the Ksubi after party at a top secret location.
Whitney Eve, Ksubi highlights to follow tomorrow:
Can’t wait for tomorrow’s line up!
