June, Queens Birthday

When it comes to travel, Aussies are preparing for a June long weekend of royal proportions with international destinations continuing to lure Australians abroad.

If you’re planning on visiting Sydney, or if you’re enroute and want some inspiration of destinations that don’t involve a round the world flight, look no further…

No longer are we simply heading up the coast for a long weekend break. According to’s General Manager, Renee Welsh many Australians will make the most of the Queen’s holiday by jetting overseas for a quick break.

“We’ve found three in four of our customers have chosen an international destination when planning travel this June long weekend. Bali and Bangkok have come out on top as the two holiday options of choice.

“With airlines battling it out for the cheapest fare and our dollar still strong against many currencies, exotic overseas travel continues to prove too tempting,” said Renee.

For those choosing to stay within Australia this long weekend, Brisbane is the destination of choice with 25 per cent of’s domestic travellers heading to the sunny state this long weekend. Sydney, in a close second, is set to take in 18 per cent of domestic travellers over the same period.

When it comes time to depart, Renee said many travellers this year are extending their long weekend by a couple of days to ensure a decent break.

“Sixty per cent of our customers plan to take off a few extra days and leave for their destination on either 7th or 8th June.  Thirty five per cent plan to depart on 9th June and only five per cent on 10th June.

“Long weekends only come around a couple of times a year, so if you haven’t already, why not make the most of the Monday off work and plan a trip away with friends or family? There are still plenty of value for money flights and hotel options available for people still looking to plan a quick getaway,” said Renee.
