On Wednesday 29th August, Sydney Social 101 was invited to attend Double Bay’s first small bar and restaurant, Mrs Sippy’s first birthday celebration. Wow, do these guys know how to put on an event! To celebrate its first year in the limelight, the local hot spot opened its doors to a select crowd (which Sydney Social 101 was very privileged to be a part of) and threw a house party last night that would have left many of Sydney’s social set with a sore head Thursday morning – myself included, ouchy!
The evening was celebrated by co-owners Benjamin May, siblings Andrew and Kate Stanway, and Angus Abrahams as a ‘thank-you’ to all their friends, locals, and regulars who have supported the venue throughout the year. ”We’ve had the pleasure of hosting functions for some iconic brands, but never had the time to throw our own; we thought we’d celebrate one successful year by putting on a party everyone would remember!”
And that they did! A glamorous crowd joined in on the festivities which included newlyweds Kate Waterhouse and Luke Ricketson, the Stenmark twins Jordan and Zach, Pip Edwards and Adam Ashley-Cooper, Terry Biviano and Anthony Minichiello, Gretal Packer, Daimon Downey, Maude Garrett, Zoe Balbi, Josh Flinn, David Whitehill, Tom Steinfort, Alison Piotrowski and teen heart throb Johnny Ruffo.
We were welcomed to the quirky venue with a glass of Veuve and their signature drink, the Mrs Sippy Martini (YUM!). The Chandon was flowing and the tunes were pumping to the wee hours thanks to resident DJ Miss Annie. A variety of canapés such as roasted pumpkin tart with goats cheese, oysters, wagyu beef sliders, lemon pepper prawn, and a selection of gourmet wood fired pizzas went down a treat. And for the sweet tooth, guests enjoyed the Gelatisimo ice-cream.
The entire venue was jumping, with upstairs being transformed into the Vodka Lounge with Belvedere and SKYY mixes to go. The crew unveiled “Star Trucker” a mobile food and drinks caravan. When was the last time you saw a caravan parked in Double Bay?
Mrs Sippy confidently sits in the leafy streets of Double Bay. By day she’s relaxed and inviting, reading the paper, catching up on the gossip, sipping lattes and watching the world go by. By night Mrs Sippy enjoys dinner with her friends and then unwinds to delicious house tunes, celebrating the week with a cocktail or a glass of wine. A favourite among locals, Mrs Sippy is one of the hot spots of the Eastern Suburbs – a place to eat, drink, play, ENJOY!
