BRISBANE’S MICHAEL MCDONALD NAMED MEN’S HEALTH MAN
On Tuesday 2nd September I had the honour of being invited to the final if the Australian Men’s Health magazine’s MEN’S HEALTH MAN competition, presented by NIVEA FOR MEN, which saw Brisbane chef and physiotherapy student, Michael McDonald, 28, crowned winner!
Michael accepted his award in front of a 200-strong crowd at Sydney’s Ivy Sun Room bar, which is a stunning venue! As part of his prize Michael features on the cover of the October issue of Men’s Health magazine, on sale on Monday 10th September 2012.
Men’s Health editor, Ian Cockerill said: “What ultimately decided this award in Michael’s favour was his combination of having pulled himself up by his bootstraps through hard graft, his humility, his ready smile and his conviction that he alone is the author of his story”
“He was a chef – in fact, still works weekends as one – but between his passion for fitness and his calculation that it wasn’t the best foundation on which to build a family life, he has set about retraining as a physiotherapist.”
“It takes courage to leave what you know behind, and I think it’s a story that will resonate with many of our readers in these rapidly-changing times.”
“Michael is an ideal ambassador for the magazine.”
In its fourth year, the Men’s Health Man competition presented by NIVEA FOR MEN aims to identify men who embody the magazine’s ethos of living full, balanced lives encompassing fitness, career, relationships and appearance.
The Greenslopes local was one of 12 national finalists in the running for the coveted title, and in addition to appearing on the cover of the magazine, Michael also won a Ball watch valued at $2,980, a NIVEA FOR MEN gift pack, a MARCS gift voucher and a two-year subscription to Men’s Health magazine.
Two other awards were announced at the red carpet event – the coveted NIVEA FOR MEN Face of Success award, which was awarded to Michael Webster (who’s from my home county back home in the UK, small Sydney world!) and the Readers’ Choice award, which went to Shasha Alizadeh.
All is all it was a lovely evening where the drinks and food just kept on coming, we were treated to sparkling, martinis, beer and malt whisky! The pizzas, hot dogs and spring rolls were also delicious!
A wonderful event that Sydney Social 101 thoroughly enjoyed (the guy candy didn’t hurt my eyes either!) he he The goody bag was also amazing!
