Today marks the one year anniversary of Sydney Social 101. It was a year ago that I decided that there was a niche in Sydney in terms of a blog that highlighted all that Sydney has to offer.
I recalled arriving in Sydney in January 2009 with my best friend, it was the best of times… Scary, sure! Non-the-less, it was the absolute, undeniable best time.
We arrived on a year working holiday visa, wide eyed, excited about what path lay ahead of us. We both arrived with no job to go to, a week’s accommodation booked at G’Day Hostel in Kings Cross. All we had were our minimal savings and a strong sense of adventure.
The one thing that hit me was my lack of knowledge about Sydney. I actually even thought that Sydney was hot all year round, it didn’t even cross my mind that it had a winter… long dark, wet winters! Thank god I arrived in January, the hottest time of year. Otherwise my case jam packed with swimsuits, summer dresses and suncream wouldn’t have got me very far!
With this is mind, I have decided to expand the scope of my blog, whist telling you my story, my mistakes and my adventures along the way since arriving in Sydney.
It can be daunting arriving in a brand new city, all the way across the globe with not even so much of an idea as to what suburbs there are beyond Bondi. If you have no prior idea of what to expect to pay for rent, how to set up a bank account, get hold of an Aussie mobile phone… never mind getting a tax-file number or an RSA (Responsible Service of Alcohol), then I hope to provide the answers for you on here!
If you’re not sure if you want to live on the beach or in the west, or even in the north, this will hopefully be the answer you’ve been looking for.
So in addition to the Social Spy**, Reviews, Launches, Film Screenings, Features and guest posts, I’ll also be writing about the suburbs of Sydney, what to expect and a 101 Guide to all this amazing city has to offer!
I also want to take this opportunity to thank all of my contributors and the PR agencies, marketing managers and production houses for providing me with the content this blog needs to survive!
There will be no changes in terms of current content, just lots of additions to provide your ultimate guide. I’ll also be adding a personal touch, just so you get to know me a little better. The face behind the blog 🙂
Thank you again everyone, I look forward to writing even more posts that highlight why I choose to live in this amazing city that we call home!
