Woollahra’s champagne and wine bar One Moncur is adding a contemporary high tea to its drinking and dining offering.
Already one of Sydney’s favourite places to enjoy a relaxed afternoon, One Moncur’s sophisticated high tea focuses on tea- time classics given a contemporary update, which of course should be enjoyed over bubbles.
With one of Sydney’s best champagne selections, the ultimate treat is to enjoy either ‘The Sparkling Moncur Tea’, which includes a glass of cool climate Clover Hill Tasmanian Cuvee NV, or if you just can’t pass up a glass of grande marque champagne, upgrade to ‘The Madame’s Tea’. Named after the ‘Grand Dame of Champagne’, Madame Cliquot Ponsardin, a glass of Veuve Cliquot Ponsardin Brut NV works very nicely with a macaron or two!
One Moncur will treat you to afternoon tea sandwiches such as blue swimmer crab with coriander mayonnaise, poached chicken with almonds and crème fraiche, or a classic cucumber. Their fresh scones, served up with strawberry conserve and Chantilly cream will contest your Grandma’s best batch. To finish off the classic high tea there is of course a delectable selection of macarons and slices.
The champagne and wine bar is also offering a new summer food menu to take you from lunch to dinner. Start with small plates of Spanish white anchovies with chimichurri or gazpacho with crusty bread, and move on to a tartine of rich jamón ibérico, or wagyu bresaola beef sliders. And to finish, along with the artisan chocolates and cheese plates, One Moncur will now tempt you with poached white peaches and berry compote.
Brothers Luke and Jeremy Browne along with business partner Anthony Rosen have been the driving force behind the reincarnation of the historic Phoenix Hotel building on leafy Moncur Street, which takes many of its design features from the Phoenix’s rich art deco past.
The wine list offers over 30 champagnes by the bottle, including classic grande marques and an impressive list of grower- made champagnes. The experienced One Moncur team has also ensured that there are plenty of champagnes for under $20 a glass to show that champagne can be an affordable luxury, as well as an assured list of Australian and French wines.
