Thursday 21 March, 2013; Last night Sportsgirl hosted an underground British themed celebration for the media launch of Sportsgirls like House of Holland with special guest UK fashion designer Henry Holland at Sydney’s The Hazy Rose.
The collaboration comes in the tenth year of the Sportsgirls Like initiative.
In a presentation highlighting the key looks of the capsule collection that are available now at selected Sportsgirl stores and online, Sportsgirl Fashion Forecaster Leigh Hawkes interviewed Henry about his inspiration for the Sportsgirl collaboration, with Henry explaining the origins of the graphic pattern story as coming from patchworks and proclaiming his love of “all things nanna”.
Henry entertained the crowd of fashion editors, bloggers and media types with his candid selections from aprovocative list from Leigh Hawkes, declaring his preference for Australiansunshine over UK rain, Aggy over Alexa, Cara over Kate, and Sportsgirl over Top Shop. When asked if he preferred either street or catwalk the designer asked, “Can’t I have both?”
A relaxed and chatty Henry Holland mingled with guests, taking time to pose for photographs and answer questions from the fashionable crowd who had assembled to meet the iconic designer.
Guests were treated to British inspired treats including Cucumber and Watercress sandwiches, bite sized Yorkshire Puddings with a very thirsty crowd enjoying two signature cocktails – Pimms Cups and Gin & Tonics, as well as chilled Perrier and ciders.
A rainbow of Sportsgirl coloured Jelly Belly jellybeans and mini Jammie Dodgers were served as a sweet treat to follow the seemingly endless flow of canapes.
DJ Captain Franco entertained guests with a blend of old school nineties favourites, hip hop and R&B,including tracks from Kanye West, Chingy, MIA, Lil Kim, and Henry’s favourite – Solange.
Guests at the event included Rupert Noffs with boyfriend Matty B, Dee Jenner and Gemma Keil from Instyle, Katherine Field from Sunrise, Editor Sarah Tarca and Fashion Editor Safaz Razi from Girlfriend, as well as fashion and lifestyle staff from NW, Sunday Style, and Lifestyled.
