What’s on this October at The Star

October is a jam-packed month at The Star – whether you’re looking to celebrate Spring Racing, rock out to some live music or even provide the tunes yourself at karaoke, there is something for everyone this month at The Star. Treat yourself at one of the delectable events at the signature dining venues as part of The Star’s support of Good Food Month; as part of the foodie celebrations, The Star will play host to the Shoot the Chef exhibition as well as the Great Australian Dinner with renowned chef Rene Redzepi.

Live music venue Rock Lily will play host to some top talent during October, including Katchafire and the Common Kings, as well as another crowd favourite, the free Comedy Nights.

And no matter who you support, footy fans will all agree that the only place to watch the NRL Grand Final is on the 24/7 Sports Bars’ mega screen!

The Star celebrates as the official after party venue for the ATC Spring Carnival – Saturday 5th, Saturday 12th, Saturday 19th and Saturday 26th October from 7:00pm
Carry on your racing celebrations at Cherry at The Star, the official after party venue for Sydney’s glamorous Spring Racing Carnival. The Star makes it easy with free buses from the racecourse and a free drink to complete your day in style. Be sure to come celebrate after The Star Epsom Day (5th October), Moet & Chandon Spring Champion Stakes Day (12th October), City Tattersall’s Cup Day (19th October) and Men of League Cox Plate Day (26th October).

NRL Grand Final – Sunday 6th October 7:00pm

The Star’s 24/7 Sports Bar is the only place to be on the long weekend, with the NRL Grand Final sure to be the sporting event of the year. The 24/7 Sports Bar features three mega screens or 50 LCD screens to keep sports fans entertained.

Shoot the Chef – Thursday 10th to Thursday 31st October
As part of Good Food Month, Shoot the Chef will feature creative photographs of iconic Australian chefs in an exhibition to be showcased in the retail precinct between Balla and BLACK by ezard.

An Indian Summer – The Taj Foundation Black Tie Dinner – Saturday 26th October
The Taj Foundation Black Tie Dinner will raise funds to support persons of South Asian origin in Australia and abroad, through charities such as the Steve Waugh Foundation and One Disease At A Time. The evening will celebrate socially conscious fashion and will feature presentations from Paris- based designer Manish Arora and local design talent Roopa Pemmaraju. Great Australian Dinner – Sunday 27th October 6:00pm
Ten of Australia’s most inspiring chefs join forces to put ‘Australia on a plate’. In line with top Michelin chef Rene Redzepi’s philosophy of “time and place”, Neil Perry, Peter Gilmore, David

Chang, Martin Benn, Dan Hunter, Mark Best, Kylie Kwong, Ben Greeno, Brent Savage and James Viles each create their own personal expression of Australian cuisine for a landmark four course dinner. Guest of honour, Rene Redzepi will speak on the night (and take care of first course!). Expect ideas, conversation and debate, fascinating food and plenty of surprises at one of the most important events of the culinary year.

Clash of The Bands – Heats and Semi-Finals from Thursday 3rd October

The Star has teamed up with music industry power-brokers in a for Sydney’s best unsigned band.

This month will see the hottest acts from the first heats vie for a spot in the finals – make sure you are there to see the competition fire into full gear:

  •   3rd October – Semi-Final from 8:00pm
  •   9th October – Heat 4 from 8:00pm
  •   25th October – Heat 5 from 8:00pm

The Duelling Pianos Show – Fridays, from 7:00pm

The Duelling Pianos are back every Friday of October to battle it out New Orleans-style. The Duelling Pianos Show is made up of two singing pianists going head to head on black baby grand pianos, alongside a swingin’ drummer. Together the group wows audiences with their extensive repertoire of over 400 songs across eight decades of popular music. There’s no set list for the Duelling Pianos Show; all their performances are full of audience participation and spontaneity, so get down to Rock Lily and request your favourite tunes.

David and Goliath – Monday 7th October 4:00pm – 8:00pm
Drew McAlister, from McAlister Kemp, and Geoff Robertson, one half of the ARIA nominated The Robertson Brothers, team up for a night of musical magic – one no country music fan should miss!

Remember the time “A tribute to MJ & Whitney” – Friday 11th October from 10:30pm

Hosted by Angel Champion and headed by talented musical family, The Kamis, featuring soul diva Madam Parker as Whitney Houston and with Sydney’s number one R&B and Soul music artist, Mike Champion as Michael Jackson, the audience will be treated to 90 minutes of non-stop Michael and Whitney hits.

Katchafire, supported by Common Kings – Thursday 17th October from 8:30pm
Internationally acclaimed reggae group Katchafire will be performing songs from their new album ‘On the Road Again’ at The Star on October 17. Katchafire has been hailed as a global blues ‘n’ roots phenomenon, and will be supported by US band Common Kings, who are returning to Australia after their sell-out tour last year.

Ben Goldstein, Nick Kingswell and Rob Edwards – Saturday 19th October from 9:30pm
Fresh off The Voice Australia, talented singers and local Bondi boys Ben Goldstein, Nick
Kingswell and Rob Edwards are set to return to the stage at their upcoming live show at The Star. Supported by some of Sydney’s best musicians, the boys will be showcasing their home grown original songs in a performance packed full of R&B, soul, funk, pop and reggae sounds.

Furnace and the Fundamentals – Saturday October 26th from 9:30 pm
The highly talented cover band’s set list features an eclectic mix of crowd favourite tracks, performed with as much energy and verve as the originals. Their extensive repertoire ranges from The Beatles and Elvis Presley to Mark Ronson, Vampire Weekend and Wolfmother. You’re guaranteed to be up and partying on the dance floor to your favourite current and classic hits.

Star Karaoke – Thursdays from 7pm

Sing like a star every Thursday night at Star Karaoke, where you could score up to $500 of weekly cash prizes. To take part in the night, you’ll just need to be a member of the Absolute Rewards loyalty program – it’s free to join and you can do so on the night.

Register from 7pm at Lucky Lounge, The Star. Get in early as places are limited to 30 participants each night.
