Three-piece funk and soul band Uncle Jed, Winners of Australia’s Got Talent 2013, will be launching the first season of the newly named IMB Sunset Cinema North Sydney, performing on opening night on Friday 17th January at the historic North Sydney Oval. The Oval is the location of Australia’s first documented outdoor cinema, dating back to 1909, and more than a 100 years later the event will be attended by tens of thousands of locals, and using state of the art cinema screen and projector. Screening from the 17th January through to the 9th March, 5 nights per week, the IMB Sunset Cinema offers its guests an entertaining mix of blockbusters and cult classics, as well as live music, beanbags, gourmet food and a fully licensed bar – it’s more than just a movie night, it’s a festival!
The 2014 IMB Sunset Cinema North Sydney program has something for everyone from blockbusters such as The Hobbit, The Desolation of Smaug, Anchorman 2 and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, to cult hits like Dirty Dancing, Top Gun and Grease, potential Oscar winners like Wolf of Wall Street, American Hustle and Mandela: Long Walk to Freedom, and Family Friday flicks including Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs 2, Saving Mr Banks and Planes.
IMB Sunset Cinema Managing Director Simon Rollin says, “We’re so excited to be kicking off the start of summer in North Sydney with our first season of IMB Sunset Cinema. As well as our hugely diverse program we’ve partnered with Crust Pizza, Maggie Beer Ice Cream, 4 Pines, Crabbies Cider & MadFish Wines to bring you some mouth-watering options while you soak up the outdoor cinema experience. Big thanks also have to go to our amazing sponsors, IMB and mX Newspaper who have helped ensure we have the biggest and best first season – and don’t miss the amazing Uncle Jed performing on opening night!”
IMB CEO Robert Ryan said: “IMB is proud to be the naming rights sponsor for IMB Sunset Cinema, bringing the outdoor movie experience back to Sydney. As a member-based building society, IMB is committed to supporting the local communities in the areas in which we operate and Sunset Cinema is a great way for us to give a little back to Sydney residents who have supported us for many years.”
