What’s on: Mr CBD Returns to Bars March!

Sydney’s Annual Search for the Hottest Man in a Suit

The annual search for Sydney’s Hottest Man in a Suit returns – with extra sizzle. Bars March is holding its second Mr CBD, the unique male beauty competition for men in suits, where flirting is all for a good cause: Animal Welfare League NSW!

lr_EN4A8561

The competition is currently open for entries from the general public, so either enter yourself if you’re a savvy suit-wearing gent, or nominate someone you know, to be in with a chance of being the second Bars March Mr CBD winner!

Six finalists will be selected and invited to parade at the charity gala final at The Argyle, The Rocks, on Thursday 20th March, which is being hosted by Bars March brand ambassadors TV personality and vet Dr Katrina Warren, and former CLEO Bachelor of The Year David Whitehill, who is no stranger to winning male beauty contests!

lr_EN4A8644

At the gala the audience will put their hands in their pockets to bid to choose the winner, and the finalist attracting the highest overall bid wins the Mr CBD 2014 title. As well as the title Mr CBD will also win a fabulous bespoke prize consisting of an Institchu tailored suit, Pugnacious George Essentials Pack and an incredible gentleman’s SpaQ package from QT Hotels. All the proceeds from the auction go to AWL NSW.

lr_Katrina Warren & Donna Lee

Last year, the final was hotly contested before an enthusiastic 200-plus audience, by a mix of handsome bankers, IT boys, salesmen, and lawyers. The winner was Angelo Bouras, a real estate agent from Potts Point, who still wears his sash with pride! So to be in with a chance of winning this year it’s easy to enter, all that is required is a current photo, name, age and occupation to be sent to mrcbdentry@gmail.com

So gentlemen, step up to the challenge and show how to work that suit! Ladies: nominate your co-worker, friend or – even better – boss!

BARS MARCH name has changed but all the favourite events are back, including Mr CBD, the Pets at the Pub series and special cocktails at bars all over Sydney, from major venue groups to funky little hotspots. More than 80 Sydney bars will be mixing up special cocktails throughout the month of March, and a bevy of celebrities, including the very cool Mambo artists, animal-loving garden guru Jamie Durie and media vet Dr Katrina Warren will be joining the fun.

During BARS MARCH you can show your support by visiting participating venues and buying a BARS MARCH charity cocktail, attending fundraising events and taking part in social media competitions. Highlights for 2014 include:

March 16th 2014: Puppy Prom at The Alexandria Hotel 1pm-4pm. Think Pretty in Pink, Grease or even Carrie … with four legs! It’s time for prom doggie style as Sydney’s biggest beer garden welcomes everyone and their pooch pals to the waggiest school dance ever. With canine corsages, prom photos, and prizes for talent and looks, this is the prom where no-one’s without a date, because everyone can bring a best friend.

For all those loved up duos who can’t make it on the 14th, the Serenade Sessi ons will continue on for the following Wednesday evenings in February. Social spy** Major Lazer tear up Sydney Harbour for [V] Island Parties

MAJOR LAZER CHANNEL V ISLAND PARTY Photo by Oliver Minnett-5

Sydney Social 101 had the privilege of being invited to a pretty impressive party that was being held by Channel [V]. Major Lazer came, they saw, then blew the whole joint up in the most raucous Channel [V] Island Party in history. With banging tunes, dancers, backflips and a whole lot of party, the dance heavyweights took over Sydney Harbour for an exclusive DJ set last night.

The Major Lazer crew are notorious for their explosive, mind-blowing shows, but no one had any idea just what was in store for them when Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire got on the Channel [V] Island. From the moment they hit the stage, they commanded the crowd, tearing through a ferocious set of Major Lazer tracks, remixes and sure-fire bangers that had everyone working it low.

The boys, flanked by their trademark dancers, came to party and it wasn’t long before the shirts were off (crowd included) and Diplo was in the water after backflipping off the island. The debauchery was next level, minds were lost and it was all over far too soon.

This is the summer of [V] Island Parties – exclusive gigs on Channel [V]’s very own floating island. Coming to you direct from Sydney Harbour, we have some of the world’s best artists lining up to party with you

Charity 101** Cupid’s Undie Run to see thousands take to the streets in their bedroom best

World’s largest underwear run puts the ‘FUN’ in fundraising for Children’s Tumour Foundation

BDA Bonds Undie Run 10022013 0301

With Valentine’s Day right around the corner, a surprisingly ‘brief’ fundraising event on Sunday 9th February 2014 will see participants in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne take to the city streets in their bedroom best, as they join in the world’s largest organised underwear run, all in the name of an important cause.

Inspired by wildly successful events of the same name taking place simultaneously in 27 US cities,

Cupid’s Undie Run supported by Bonds is a jocular 1.5km jog through the city streets that aims to put the ‘FUN’ in fundraising, helping to raise important funds and increase awareness for the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia.

Registrations are now open for the runs in Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, which are expected to see more than 2,000 Aussies join nearly 20,000 runners worldwide, as they to take to the streets in various Valentine-themed undie outfits inspired by the event’s motto: “I’m With Cupid.”

Event organiser, Lee Mackie, of the Children’s Tumour Foundation of Australia, said participants were encouraged to raise funds around their involvement in the lead up to the event, emphasising that all money raised would help to provide vital support services and fund research for Neurofibromatosis (NF) in Australia.

Affecting 1 in 3,000 Australians, NF is a genetic condition that causes tumours to grow on nerves throughout the body causing life-limiting, debilitating side effects. There is currently no cure.

“Cupid’s Undie Run is raising much needed funds, but just as importantly, it’s also raising awareness,” Mackie said, adding that the light-hearted and positive tone of the event meant it also acted as a celebration of the good work done by the organisation.

“Our participants love to ‘dress up’ for this event and have a bit of fun with it; guys will shave hearts into their chests, girls will wear wings and tutus – it’s a fun time from beginning to end,” said Mackie.

Local venues including Bungalow 8 in Sydney, The Caxton Hotel in Brisbane and Watermark, at the Docklands in Melbourne, will each host pre and post-race festivities from noon, where undie runners will be able to celebrate their successful fundraising efforts.

Registration includes a race day shirt and costs $40 as of 16 January, increasing to $50 on 2 February, so it pays for participants to register early.  Runners can also earn custom Cupid’s undies and VIP Open Bar status by fundraising. Places are limited so early registration is essential. Event and registration details for each city are available at www.cupidsundierun.com.au.

The 2014 Cupid’s Undie Run supported by Bonds and founding sponsor Radio Rentals will be the second time round for Australia, as Brisbane and Melbourne join in the fun following a phenomenal first year event in Sydney.
