Grudge Match is based on a story of two boxing rivals who had a couple of fights that ended in a draw. Just before the big rematch Henry ‘Razor’ Sharp, played by Sylvester Stallone, suddenly retires. This is to the anger of Billy ‘The Kid’ McDonnen, played by Robert De Niro. The Kid goes on to be famous and rich while Razor chooses to take a normal every job.
30 years go by, then there is a program on tv discussing the old fight. Everyone wonders who would win. Then Dante Slate Jr, played by Kevin Hart, decides this is the chance to make a name for himself by promoting the fight that never happened. But they will both need to help him with promoting the fight to give it that extra excitement. They always fail at promoting the fight but their arguments with one another and anyone else who gets in their way, starts to turn heads.
Kim Basinger plays the love interest as the one time girlfriend who has come back in to their life. I have not seen Kim is a film for many years, was strange to see her looking so old. The final piece of cast goes to Alan Arkin who plays Louis ‘Lightening’ Conlon. He adds a lot of the humour as Razor’s old constantly moaning trainer.
This film gave Stallone a good opportunity get back in to the ring after his famous Rocky trillogy. (Some of my favourite films). It was also a chance to see De Niro back in the ring after the also famous but one off film, Raging Bull. There were many nods towards the old films, more so on the Rocky front. The famous training scene in the freezer and the running scene where he tries to beat his tainer on a bike. Except here Stallone is trying to outrun his trainer on a mobile scooter. These pull out some of the funniest moments, for those who get them.
De Niro seems to take on the bad guy role in this film but I am sure everyone will have a favourite. If you like the high profile cast then I think that you would enjoy this film for the warm hearted comedy it is.
Sydney Social101 gives ‘Grudge Match’ 6.5/10. Just remember to stick around after the credits. A couple of surprise people come in and produce the biggest laughs of all.
Grudge Match was reviewed by SS101’s movie reviewer Syrus Wynne.
Sydney Social 101 had the privilege of being invited to a pretty impressive party that was being held by Channel [V]. Major Lazer came, they saw, then blew the whole joint up in the most raucous Channel [V] Island Party in history. With banging tunes, dancers, backflips and a whole lot of party, the dance heavyweights took over Sydney Harbour for an exclusive DJ set last night.
The Major Lazer crew are notorious for their explosive, mind-blowing shows, but no one had any idea just what was in store for them when Diplo, Jillionaire and Walshy Fire got on the Channel [V] Island. From the moment they hit the stage, they commanded the crowd, tearing through a ferocious set of Major Lazer tracks, remixes and sure-fire bangers that had everyone working it low.
The boys, flanked by their trademark dancers, came to party and it wasn’t long before the shirts were off (crowd included) and Diplo was in the water after backflipping off the island. The debauchery was next level, minds were lost and it was all over far too soon.
This is the summer of [V] Island Parties – exclusive gigs on Channel [V]’s very own floating island. Coming to you direct from Sydney Harbour, we have some of the world’s best artists lining up to party with you
It doesn’t stop here, friends. The next [V] Island Party will be announced next week. Stay tuned to vmusic.com.au to find out how to score tickets.
Highlights from [V] Island Parties: Major Lazer will be on-air from next week.
It’s the first day back at work after the Australia Day weekend and to say I’m feeling a little fragile is putting it mildly. I may have over indulged – but then again, it would be un-Australian of me to not get in the spirit of things, right?
Well now I’ve decided to take a stand and to start to work towards the new me – I’m 29, not getting any younger, this is the last year of my twenties and I figure I should do what I can to look after my body (we only get one of them)!
Don’t get me wrong, with the array of wonderful events I get to attend, with the free bars and stunning food, it can be very easy to ‘have a night off’. Ultimately however, I have come to the conclusion that I should live by the moto ‘everything in moderation’, a quick fix diet isn’t ever going to work for me – neither is banning alcohol or amazing food from my life. All that I achieve by doing this is being miserable and gorging when the ‘fix’ is over (and probably undo all m hard work within two-hours).
As you may have heard, I am taking part in body+soul revolution! The body+soul revolution is a 10-week health and fitness online program scientifically proven to help users achieve a balanced, healthy lifestyle – all with the help of our team of trusted body+soul experts (from nutritionists to sexologists!). I believe that this is the best way for me to start as I mean to go on, a lifestyle choice rather than a fad diet.
I’ve also decided to put myself out there and will be documenting my progress throughout the 10-week revolution (so that I have nowhere to hide and so that I actually have to face this head on!).
Having scoured the healthy prepared meal delivery services across Sydney, these two have consistently come out on top – in terms of taste and affordability.
In additional to the body+soul revolution, I will be following a 14 Day 1,200 Calorie Kick Start Plan from Dietlicious (prior to the body+soul revolution commencing).
I will also be working with Hello Fresh during the body+soul revolution to provide you with information on meal plans, how tasty and affordable they can be along with insights as to how long they take to prepare. (For time poor, health conscious readers!)
Throughout the process I will be working out with my own personal trainer (plus swimming four times a week) – you have permission to shout at me if I slack off!
I will be monitoring my progress on body+soul revolution’s website throughout the ten weeks. There is a wealth of information as part of the body+soul revolution, you can find out more at bodyandsoul.com.au/revolution
Now I will update you all with my progress week to week and will also post daily updates via my social media channels to see how I’m tracking. In the interest of being 100% transparent, I will update you with my weight and inch loss (fingers crossed!) as I progress.
Here are my current stats (inches will be added soon):
Height: 5’7” (170cm)
Weight: 72 KG
Dress size: 12
At the end of the 10 week body+soul revolution, with the help of Hello Fresh, Dietlicious and my PT I would love to achieve the following:
Height: 5’7” (170cm) – Shockingly the same 😉
Weight: 62 KG
Dress size: 10
I would absolutely love some support throughout this progress, maybe you might be interested in even taking part with me? To be involved it’s really simple,
Simply log onto bodyandsoul.com.au/revolution for a free health and weight assessment, choose a program to suit your lifestyle and goals, and let the fab team of body+soul experts guide you through a 10-week program of delicious meal plans and recipes, easy-to-follow workouts and all the tips and tricks you’ll need to lose weight, feel great and boost your energy.
The body+soul revolution begins Sunday 2nd February 2014 at bodyandsoul.com.au/revolution. I have already begun with the pre-revolution detox to best prepare myself for the experience, you know what, I’m really excited about this!

Hilton Sydney’s Zeta Bar launches ‘Arabian Nights’
A Sheesha Chic Experience every Friday night throughout summer.
SYDNEY – January 2014 – With the temperatures set to soar this summer, transport yourself to an Arabian Oasis. Surround yourself with luxury and opulence whilst indulging your senses with an array of Arabian inspired cocktails, a spice market bar and sheesha pipes on the terrace.
Hilton Sydney’s internationally acclaimed Zeta Bar launches its latest Friday night concept, ‘Arabian Nights’ – a sheesha chic experience for the senses. Held every Friday from 14 February starting at 6.00 p.m., Zeta Bar will be magically transformed into an Arabian palace, encompassing the flavours, aromas and essence of Arabia complemented by exotic décor, including plush Moroccan cushions, lanterns and Moroccan elephants.
Zeta Bar’s terrace will include an additional outdoor lounge pod decked out with a luxurious day bed and Persian rugs. Guests will be greeted by a sheesha Sommelier who will introduce the splendour of smoking the hookah and guide you through the entire process including offering a selection of fragrant premium flavours.
All this combined with a range of specially concocted cocktails, taking inspirations from classic movies such as Casablanca, One Thousand and One Nights and Aladdin, each with their own story. Ranging from molecular to playful twists on classic cocktails, the menu features a mixture of aromas and spices including- cinnamon, star anise, Turkish delight, figs, rose teas, sumac and smoked fairy floss.
Partnering with Johnnie Walker, the cocktails have been carefully conceived to incorporate the flavours of the spirit. In addition to the cocktail menu, Zeta’s back bar will showcase a ‘spice market’ display whereby guests can select a spice to which a Zeta Bartender will create bespoke cocktails to order.
The Arabian experience does not stop there, the culinary playfulness continues through a Middle Eastern inspired bar food menu including grilled Harissa lamb cutlets with a potato humus and Muhammara sauce; a tasting plate of house made dips including a pearl onion salad with pomegranate; and to finish, a selection of Arabic sweet treats.
Launching to the media on Thursday 6 February, guests will be welcomed by live camels, Sinbad guards and performances by magician and illusionist, Adam Mada as well as Belly Dancers and fire shows.
The ‘Arabian Nights’ summer concept follows the previous successes of ‘The Secret Garden’, ‘Coney Island’ and ‘Farmers Market’ concepts previously held at Zeta Bar.
Arabian Nights at Zeta Bar opens to the public every Friday night from 6.00 p.m., launching Friday 14 February through to Friday 21 March 2014. #zetabararabiannights #opensesame

Sydney Social 101 was invited to the Sydney premiere of The Wolf of Wall Street last night and was absolutely privileged to be one of the first people in Australia to see the complete film.
The Wolf of Wall Street is one of the most sought after movies for quite some time! Whilst monitoring Sydney Social 101’s traffic, there has been a significant number of visitors coming to Sydney Social 101 via Google looking for information on Leo’s sixth pairing with Martin Scorsese.
I have often entered into debate with my friends about Leonardo DiCaprio and how it is quite shocking that he has never won an Oscar – I stand by this claim even more so now than ever before. Leonardo’s performance in this film in nothing short of amazing, if he doesn’t get the recognition from the Academy that he is so deservedly of, I might have something to say – and it wont be nice…
For any of you who have read the book, I’m sure you’re intrigued to see how the story of Jordan Belfort can transcend from pages of a book to the silver screen. An anti-climax for many on so may occasions when a great read that sets your imagination on fire crumbles as it plays out on the big screen.
“Who would you have playing you in a film of your life?!” is question many are asked throughout your lifetime (Blake Lively or Jennifer Lawrence just incase you were wondering), I can only imagine that in his wildest dreams would Jordan Belfort have expected that Leo, one of the best actors of his generation, would depict his story from rags to riches and him stepping on anyone and everyone to get there.
I won’t spoil the plot for those of you who haven’t read the book, however I will provide you with a succinct synopsis: “The best film of the 2000s by a long way!”. Complete with every 522 F-bomb and a storyline that will leave you feeling a mixture of awe and hatred for Jordan Belfort, it is a film that should absolutely be in your calendar for its official release on 23.1.14.
It is sometimes hard to believe that Jordan Belfort is a real person as you follow the real-life story of his ambition and realisation of becoming a successful stockbroker living the high life to his fall involving crime, ego, corruption and selfishness that is beyond comprehension.
Funny, whitty, cringeworthy and gripping – the film evokes many emotions in the 1-minute-shy of three hours epic. Sterling performances by Aussie’s own Margot Robbie, who plays Jordan’s Duchess-wife, Jonah Hill is wonderful at playing the rage educing Donnie Azoff and Rob Reiner portrays Jordan’s Dad Max wonderfully.
This soon-to-be classic already has a 8.7 rating on IMDB, impressive to say the least.
Sydney Social 101 gives the Wolf of Wall Street 9.5/10 as nothing is perfect – but this film comes pretty bloody close!

Every so often I get asked to review a product, new technologies, beauty essentials for Sydney Social 101. I am usually reluctant unless it has a great fit with the site, and my readers! This is one of those occasions where I just can’t keep this little beauty secret to myself!
Oral-B and Braun have partnered up and designed the new Black 7000 electronic toothbrush model, creating one of the most high performing, multi functional electric toothbrushes ever.
After trying the Black 7000 for four weeks I can honestly say I will never go back to using a regular toothbrush again! A bold claim I know, but a true one!
The impressive gadget has a huge variety of modes including deep clean, sensitive, whitening, massage and tongue cleaning as well as five different brush heads for precision cleaning. It evens lets you know when you are brushing too hard. There is literally nothing this brush cannot do.
“With 48,800 movements per minute, the Oral-B 7000 Black features unique oscillating, rotating and pulsating bristles that provide a tooth-by-tooth clean – a technology heralded by independent reviews for removing up to twice as much plaque as a regular manual toothbrush” (Oral-B spokesperson).
The toothbrush comes complete with a slick travel case and a digital timer which signals dentist recommended brushing times. Finished in a stylish black matt the Black 7000 ticks all the boxes and is definitely worth its price tag (RRP $299). You will not be disappointed, I wasn’t and my teeth have never felt cleaner.
Don’t forget to pack this bad boy for your summer vacations, it is a must-have – bringing a whole new meaning to the phrase: “Don’t forget your toothbrush!”
If you’d like to be in with a chance of winning one of 2 x Oral-B BLACKs (worth approx. $300 each) simply like Sydney Social 101 on Facebook and tell us in 25 words or less why you should be picked!
