Social 101** Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan go fishing

Screen Shot 2013-12-16 at 5.25.05 PM
North Bondi Fish opens December 17
Bondi locals will have another reason to stay beachside when North Bondi Fish, the highly anticipated, casual restaurant and bar by Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan, opens on December 17.
Located a few short steps from the sand and surf in the old North Bondi Italian site, North Bondi Fish is Bondi at its best. The restaurant is a relaxed space, which personifies beachside chic and is the perfect spot for lunch, dinner and everything in between. The kitchen opens at midday and the full menu is available all day and late into the evening.
A nod to the waterfront location, North Bondi Fish interiors are playful and welcoming and take inspiration from the Mediterranean seaside, suiting the relaxed vibe perfectly. Think a mixture of communal, casual wooden benches and tables, light shades with pops of colour throughout the inside spilling onto the outdoor deck.
The North Bondi Fish menu features fresh, simple, seafood dishes using the best quality produce. The focus is on casual dining with light, fresh food. The menu offers a selection of small bites, summer salads and simple grilled fish dishes charcoal-grilled on the kitchen’s Inka Grill. Some of Matt’s favourites include yellowfin tuna ceviche; sweet potato scallops; prawn roll; grilled snapper with asparagus, pea shoots and avocado; and his own take on fish fingers. Of course, it wouldn’t be Bondi without a choice of several indulgent ice cream sundaes for a soothing end to a day in the surf.
The unique wine list, designed by Matt Dunne, features crisp aromatic whites and lighter reds, a mix of Australian and European wines with Champagne and prosecco among the 20 different wines served by the glass or carafe.
Lovers of a good G&T will be pleased to see their tipple is offered a variety of ways; Hendricks with fresh cucumber; Tanqueray Ten with fresh pink grapefruit; or Bombay Sapphire with fresh lime and orange. There are also a couple of North Bondi Fish specials such as a North Bondi Crush (Fresh watermelon and Campari served in a jar) and N-B-C (North Bondi Colada: Havana Club, passionfruit pulp, coconut syrup, fresh lime and pineapple juice) as well as the ultimate summer beachside drink, an Aperol Spritz (Aperol, soda, prosecco and fresh orange).
Well acquainted with the eastern suburbs, Matt Moran and Peter Sullivan began their restaurateur partnership 21 years ago at Paddington Inn Bistro and now own ARIA in Sydney and Brisbane and most recently opened CHISWICK in Woollahra in 2012.
Matt Moran says the duo is thrilled to be opening North Bondi Fish in this fantastic beachside location.
“North Bondi Fish is for the locals. It’s relaxed, it’s fun and it’s no fuss. It is the kind of place you head to for something good to eat anytime of the day, even while still in your thongs and boardies,” says Moran.

Foodie 101** Bucket List Bondi Beach

Bondi Beach is the ultimate landmark of Australia, defining the east coast as a beautiful haven for locals and tourists alike in the heart of Australia (in my humble opinion): Sydney.

But to truly appreciate Bondi, you need to go on a beautiful spring morning before the crowds hit for summer. And that’s where I found myself last weekend; despite a slight chill in the air, the sun was shining and the clear, crisp coastal atmosphere was a welcome distraction from my inner city living.

I drove the 15 minutes from my flat in Potts Point to the beach, and I couldn’t help smiling as the beautiful ocean view drew closer as I cruised down Bondi Road. I rarely travel outside my suburb at weekends (I’m a city girl at heart), but every time I go to Bondi on a beautiful day I promise myself I’ll be a more regular visitor.

Despite parking being a nightmare, I finally managed to find a space and shell out the $10 for a two hour privilege. I strolled over the pavilion with a spring in my step knowing I was in for a treat.

I arrived at The Bucket List hoping it wasn’t too busy (I’ve experienced that many a time and it’s one of the reasons I usually stay in the city). Luckily for me, it was unusually quiet and myself and my +1 were seated in a prime position gazing out over the beach (and in prime position to perv on the hot surfers).

We ordered brunch and chowed down. As we ate, our minds were preoccupied with the sheer beauty of the city we are lucky enough to live in. We both mentioned this fact a number of times, but without looking at each other – our eyes were fixed on the sea (and the lifeguards).

If you’re looking for a beautiful setting for food and drinks with friends, you can’t go wrong with The Bucket List. It’s a real beaut of a venue and whether you’re having breakfast or kicking off a Sunday session, it’s a great place to relax and have fun with friends.

I have great memories of this place – why not check it out for yourselves and make some great memories too.

A Tavola – one of Sydney’s best-loved Italian restaurants – is excited to announce the opening of a second restaurant in the heart of Bondi Beach.

The sister restaurant to the highly acclaimed flagship, A Tavola Darlinghurst, is part of a recent development in the new Adina Complex on Bondi’s Hall Street. Along with a number of other high-profile tenants, the new A Tavola is part of an exciting rejuvenation of Bondi’s dining scene and marks a significant milestone for chef and owner, Eugenio Maiale.

img_2329 edited

A Tavola Bondi is headed by chef Eugenio’s right-hand man, Luke Randall, who has been with the restaurant since 2009. After working under Jamie Oliver, Luke has since honed his culinary skills in the A Tavola kitchen, and will now implement A Tavola’s philosophy of simple and humble Italian food in the Bondi restaurant.

In keeping with A Tavola’s namesake, literally meaning ‘to the table’, A Tavola Bondi includes the trademark communal 10-metre marble table at the heart of the restaurant.

img_2355 edited

Bondi also features the same rustic and honest classic dishes that Darlinghurst has become known for. Chef Eugenio’s food is best described as predominantly “abruzzese” (home to Eugenio’s family, north-east of Rome), made the way his mother taught him. Guests can expect to experience A Tavola’s signature flair with dried and fresh pasta, which is prepared daily with love and attention to detail on the long marble table. Reflecting its seaside location, Bondi also offers an added emphasis on beautiful seafood. The kitchen team will be incorporating diverse varieties of seafood into pasta dishes, mains and their Italian take on casual bar food.

A Tavola Bondi is located at Shop 2, 75-79 Hall Street Bondi NSW 2026. The restaurant can be contacted on 02 9130 1246 or
